Sunday saw the first club competition of the year take place – the Eastwood Cup. With glorious sunshine over the green, five groups of four players took to the green, each playing everyone else in their group once. After this first round of games, the winner of each group plus another three players with the highest aggregate scores in the first round were put through to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals featured the following matches:
Chris Dover vs Graham Moon
Peter Carr vs Keith Roughley
Gail Cafferkey vs Janice Lowe
Susan Moon vs Vyv Dalton
After some close-fought matches, Gail, Peter, Vyv and Chris made it to the semi-finals, the sun still beating down over the green.

In the semis, Peter ended up victorious over Gail, and Chris took the game from Vyv, leaving a final game between Peter Carr and Chris Dover.

The final couldn’t have been closer, with Chris taking the lead initially, then Peter battling back by taking Chris over his favourite over-the-crown mark, the game progressing to 14-across in a first-to-15 game! After shaking hands, Chris managed to take the final point on a straight mark close to the clubhouse, the crowd clapping and cheering once the winner was declared.
In the clubhouse, prizes were presented to all quarter-finalists, semi-finalists and finalists, handed out by chairman, Peter Carr, president, John Medcalf, and accompanied by Geoff Eastwood, whose father was president at the club some 60+ years ago. Geoff also presented a special prize to Chris as the winner of the cup, and many thanks go to Geoff and his family for their support, as always.
Pictured below are the prize-winners, with Chris Dover taking centre-stage in his first ever club competition win. He just has to find somewhere to put his shiny new trophy now!’

We hope everyone enjoyed the day, and look forward to seeing you for the next club competition at the start of June!
