Social Bowling at Hoole

Social Bowling at Hoole Village Hall

If you’ve been curious about giving crown green bowling a try but weren’t sure where to start, or if you have bowled before and are looking to find a friendly club to play at, why not consider our Social Bowling events, which take place every Friday and Sunday afternoon from April to October.

A Brief History of Social Bowling at Hoole

During the COVID pandemic, many people were isolated at home, after having most of their favourite social activities banned by the UK government. But as we emerged into the ‘new normal’ and were once again allowed to venture out, many of us chose to stick with outdoor activities as a safer way to socialise. To help locals to feel confident about socialising again, Hoole opened up its bowling green in 2021 to provide twice-weekly Social Bowling afternoons. The green, previously frequented in the most part by league bowlers, became a hive of activity and a new source of gentle exercise, friendly interaction and, most importantly, laughter.

What to Expect at a Social Bowling Afternoon

When you come along to Social Bowling, first you’ll notice the warm welcome from everyone! Don’t worry if you’ve not played before, we have bowlers of all levels here on Social Bowling days, many of whom will guide you in getting to grips with the game if you’re new to it. We usually play games of doubles and you’ll be assigned a suitable partner for these. You can even borrow a set of bowls for your first few games, which will give you time to decide if it’s for you, without having to commit to buying a set of bowls of your own. All you need is a smile and flat footwear (no open-toes though please!) and you’re ready to go.

When Does Social Bowling Take Place?

We play on Friday and Sunday afternoons starting promptly at 1pm and going on until around 4pm. Please take a look at our online events Calendar to ensure there isn’t an alternative event taking place on the green – this does occasionally happen. Our social afternoons are very affordable – for just a £1 donation to the club, you’ll be able to join in the fun for the whole afternoon!

If you’re ready to give bowls a try, come down and say hello!
