On Sunday, members gathered at Hoole for the Eastwood Cup club competition. The weather was superb, the standard of bowling exceptional, and the Jacob’s Join food provided by those attending kept our hot, hungry bowlers going well into the afternoon.
On the green, there were many closely fought games and some precise bowling, which pleased the onlookers and gave rise to many a shout of, “Well done!” In the main competition final, Anne Brogden took an early lead against Club President, Geoff Blamire, but once Geoff got the jack, he came back and the game turned cat and mouse, going back and forth right up to the final end. Anne eventually succeeded in taking the points needed to win the trophy.
In the main photo above, Anne Brogden is pictured accepting the winner’s trophy, together with Peter Carr (right), and our generous sponsor, Geoff Eastwood (left). We’d like to thank Geoff for the very kind donation of a slow cooker, which was also presented to Anne. Geoff’s father, Mr R. Eastwood was Club President in 1961 and 1962.
In the consolation round, club Chairman, Peter Carr took the top prize, defeating Dave Suthers in another much-enjoyed final game.
Pictured below is Peter Carr (right) ironically presenting himself with the first prize in the consolation round, and being congratulated by Geoff Eastwood.
Well done to all competitors, and thanks to everyone that provided food or raffle prizes. Also thanks to Anne and Carole for selling and drawing the raffle tickets, and to all that helped wash and tidy up, or just came to show support. Another successful and enjoyable event!
