Village Hall Cup 2024 Results

This year’s Village Hall Cup took place at Hoole on Sunday 11th August. This year, the competition was played as a singles competition, with a field of 17 entries. Beautiful sunshine adorned the green all day, and some great games of bowls were played. As the cup day fell on the same day as the Village Hall’s Vintage Car Show, we also had extra spectators watching the games and a great mix of 70s music blasting over the green. A few players could even be seen busting out a few moves as they meandered across the green, thanks to Barry White & friends!

Back to the bowls…

In the main competition, club President, Geoff Blamire confidently made his way to the final to meet Graham Moon, with Graham having only narrowly secured his place with a 21-20 win over Chris Coxhead. The two had a great final match, with Geoff coming out on top to take the cup and first prize. The two are pictured below being presented with their winning trophy (Geoff) and prize money (Graham). Well done to both!

In the Consolation round, for those losing their first round matches, the knockout continued, with Janice Cumberlidge and Peter Iddon eventually meeting in the final. On the day, it was Janice who took first place to claim victory. Both are pictured below receiving their consolation round prizes.

Other notable names earning prizes on the day were Don Lowe, who secured victory over Anne Baines to earn a place in the semi-finals of the main competition, only then losing out to Graham Moon. Don is pictured below receiving his semi-finalist’s prize.

Also in the main cup, Chris Dover, pictured below, also made it to the semi-finals, only being knocked out by eventual winner, Geoff Blamire.

Well done all those who took part and made the day so enjoyable. And, as Chris Coxhead said in his closing speech, many thanks to all who helped on the day, including Gail Cafferkey for running the event, and all the members who brought food for the Jacob’s Join or prizes for the raffle. It really was a great day.

To top off the day, just as everyone was leaving, we had the pleasure of seeing (and hearing!) the Red Arrows display team flying over after their appearance at the Blackpool Airshow. Thank you for the send off!
