You wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that the Billy Miller Cup had a very wet ending on Sunday, after a hot and humid day that included some very close results and high quality bowling on display. With the 2 finals (main and plate competition) in progress, the dark clouds moved in and brought with them thunder, lightning and a sustained, heavy downpour. As spectators hurried inside, the 4 finalists continued for a short while but were quickly drenched and eventually beaten by the storm. The ditches around the edges had become rivers and the green waterlogged so badly that it was decided to abandon the competition at this stage, and have the finalists continue their games at their own convenience.
On Monday, Chris Coxhead and Mike Slinger completed their game, with Chris becoming the new holder of the Billy Miller Cup.
Later in the week, the plate competition final between Peter Carr and Harry Postlethwaite was concluded, the winner being named as Harry Postlethwaite.
We don’t have any pictures of the winners receiving their trophies this time, but they will be presented in due course.
Well done to all who took part, especially those who braved the downpour for as long as they did, and thanks to everyone who contributed to the Jacob’s Join, the raffle and the spirit of the day! Let’s hope for better weather next year!
